5 Receive SDA Award of Excellence

SDA AoE awarded to Adrienne Sloan by Jane Dunnewold, juror, of "One Passion/Many Voices" exhibition at Artworks! New Bedford (MA), venue for SDA member show sponsored by Massachusetts/Rhode Island Surface Design Association, Feb 5 - Apr 3, 2011.

SDA Award of Excellence is given to acknowledge outstanding creativity or innovation in a work using textile/fiber-related media.  The AoE is presented by the appointed juror/judge of an exhibition or fashion show after entries are evaluated.

SDA AoE awarded to Tracy Jamar by Mary Quinlin/Kim Proctor on Aug 13, 2010 at "Pushing the Limits: New Expressions in Hooked Art" sponsored by Newtown Hooked Art Shows at various museums nationwide.

Eligible work must be professionally presented – including entries in fashion shows. Exhibitions must be open to the public for a minimum of 1 day or be part of a conference. The award criteria are creativity, originality, innovation and excellence of execution using surface design/textile/fiber-related media and processes.

SDA AoE awarded to Caryl Gaubatz by juror Maggie Weiss at "Fiber Artists of San Antonio Annual Exhibition", October 13 - November 4, 2010.

The purpose of the award is to increase awareness of the  Surface Design Association’s mission, which is to encourage appreciation of textile media across the spectrum of art, craft and design. 56 have been awarded since the program began in 2002, including 5 in 2010.

SDA AoE awarded to Sandra Beck on November 13, 2010 by Diana Ferguson, juror, at "Power of the Pocket" exhibition in Vonore (TN) and sponsored by Monroe Area Council for the Arts.

The award consists of a one-year membership in SDA and publication of the award-winning work on the SDA website GALLERY section under AWARD RECIPIENTS (currently under construction).

SDA AoE was awarded to Laurie Wohl at "Fiber Celebration 2010" by juror Linda Ligon at Tointon Gallery for the Visual Arts in Greeley (CO). The show was sponsored by Northern Colorado Weavers Guild and took place June 4 -July 11, 2010.

Ann Liddle likes to work in 3-dimensions and to paint.  She has made crocheted, knitted, and papier mâché sculptures and 2-dimensional stitched pieces.  She is currently combining those techniques into 3-D paintings. She describes her greatest satisfaction as having an idea and making it work – both artistically and technically.
